Flashback Friday: Favorite Summer Dresses of 2016, into Fall (pt. 1).
TGIF Everyone!! How is it the end of September already?
As we all know September is the last official month of Summer. Fall is indeed here both calendar-wise and weather-wise. To tell you the truth, I consider the last day of September, the very last day of Summer. In fact, remembering my styles from this Summer, I know I have worn many dresses this Summer, a lot of which didn't make it to the blog, either, sorry about that. I am once and for all saying a bittersweet Farewell to Summer by recapping 12 Favorite Dresses from Summer 2016 and talking a little bit about each of them. For each outfit, I will also include some advice on how to style each dress for Fall. I actually did a similar post when I guest blogged for Nina last week so I figured I would do the same in my blog. Ohh and there will be a part two to this post. Stay tuned. =)

OK, so I wore this dress towards the end of Spring, resulting in a Sporty Americana Atheisure look which I love, paired with my White NB Sneakers and a baseball hat. Red is my most favorite color and because this dress particularly is in a dark red, makes it perfect for Fall all the way through the December Holidays. Albania's Independence Day is on November 28th and red+black are our colors. For then, I plan on wearing this with black opaque tights, black pumps, a red plaid blanket scarf and perhaps a classic trench on top. Easy, classic, elegant and slightly preppy.

I don't have many Midi Dresses but this Summer I changed that and purchased this Gorgeous Black+White Floral one. The material is such a breezy chiffon and I love the wide ruffle on the hem and the see-through part. I can see this with block-heeled booties (any color really: camel, black, burgundy, brown, navy, red, cream, royal blue, olive, gray), a denim jacket and the same bag for a great Fall-transitioning outfit.

I experimented with lots of Bohemian styles this past Summer and wore my share of Boho dresses, like this one. Since it is a cream color, it makes the perfect little white dress without being completely white to transition into Fall. Plus it has long sleeves. In my opinion Fall is the best season to wear Bohemian Dresses. This would look great with black or brown tights and a camel backpack. All I would do is add a long gold-tone necklace, something with a tassel, or an arrow, or another geometric piece. For a full-on Fall Boho Look I would add a felt floppy hat either in black (if I go with black tights) or in brown or camel (if I go with brown tights)

This is my only kimono-sleeve dress but I kind of want another one (ideally in red). This one has a cool, unique white floral print. Coincidentally this was the LBD I wore to participate in celebrating Nina's Birthday this year and as you can see by the collage above I styled it two ways for day and night. At work, for Fall I would add some bright tights (in red, burgundy, rust or mustard) with some black suede pumps or black suede booties.

A bright cobalt dress is a Summer must have and this was a piece I added to my closet this Summer. For a breezy casual Summer look I added my orange-red d'orsay faux suede flats and some beaded jewelry. Into Fall I would wear this either with black tights or black leggings and my black moto jacket. Very simple I know but black+blue are a winning pair, especially for the cooler months. I would also do a black bootie, by the way.

This dress is already in an amazing Fall shade: Merlot or Oxblood. Back in the Summer I paired it with pops of purple, tan and electric blue. I quite like it combined with those colors. For Fall, I would keep the same lace-up sandals, wear a floral bomber jacket, some turquoise necklace or bracelet and my purple tassel earrings. I can picture that outfit in my head. I need to wear that soon because it is gorgeous! Later, when it gets even colder out, this dress would look amazing with black OTK boots.

I think in your collection of white dresses, you should have a maxi. This one is in a light and comfy gauze material and the chest area is embroidered in light tan/gold. As you see, I styled it with a very cozy, over-sized light tan cardigan. The red accessories added some bright color pops and the laceup style of my flats and the layered necklaces, made this look a little Bohemian. I would keep the same bohemian look with a couple of simple switches to transition it to Fall. The cozy grandpa cardigan over the dress and I would swap these red suede lace-up flats for my cognac suede laceup flats, just a very simple switch. I could probably add a big cozy scarf to it too, something in rich reds or in tones of purple.

OK, so this outfit already has some Fall elements in it, because you know white sneakers are perfect all year long. By the way I love wearing sneakers with dresses. What I would change for Fall is swap the denim vest for a denim jacket, tie a little bandanna scarf on my neck and keep the same sneakers or another pair of white sneakers or even a pair of black Converse.
Dress: Wal Mart.
Original Post.
As you have seen from this post, a lot of my dresses come from Target, so many budget-friendly options out there. Every now and then I will find an everyday, great casual dress at Wal Mart, like this olive midi dress which I added the floppy navy hat too (it was needed for all that sun). Olive is a huge color for Fall so this might be the easiest one to transition yet. I would keep the olive+black cuff, add my olive booties and either my denim bomber jacket or a leather jacket. This Fall, I added a merlot-colored leather+suede jacket. That would look gorgeous over this olive midi dress and so would a black moto leather jacket. Also, stay tuned to see a warm Fall transitional look I already created wearing this olive midi (on the blog next week).

I went for the sporty, athleisure vibes with this gorgeous eyelet LBD. Love the midi length. Once again I paired a dress with white leather sneakers. For a Fall casual day, I would go with a monochromatic head to toe black look: my black leather sneakers, a black cross-body bag and my black leather moto jacket. Talk about a chic and edgy mom.

OK, this is the ultimate Summer maxi: light cotton jersey and lots of blue stripes. Especially paired with star sneakers, it reads 4th of July, right? Well, I do think this is the hardest one to transition but it can be done. I am going on a limp here and say I would pair this with a black, long-sleeve mock-neck bodysuit worn underneath and some black or navy sneakers. Better yet if those sneakers are in a tall platform. I can picture it for a fashion-forward athleisure look that is street-chic and modern. You could add a long beaded necklace to it too but I would keep the color of the necklace blue or turquoise so that the whole outfit is monochrome.
Dress: Spenser Jeremy.

This was one of the silky shirt-dresses I wore to work over Summer. In the original look I already had pops of Fall via the orange and cognac colors I paired it with. For this Autumn season I would wear this with a neutral (preferably black or light tan) poncho sweater on top, some ribbed dark tights for some texture, a black cloche hat and leopard pumps for easy pattern-mixing. The leopard would be fun to mix with the bird-print of the dress. And yes, that would be another work look, but for Fall instead.
So, these are not even one third of the Dresses I have worn this Summer but I hope you enjoyed this little flashback post and my ideas in how I would transition each of these pieces into Fall. Earlier this week, I did just that (by adding a simple trench coat) to this dress.

The Who What Where dress from Target was my fave. It fits you well and its a garment that has a lot of possibilities.
ReplyDeleteI really like the black peeing dress, pretty!
ReplyDeleteWhilst my heart will always be set all a-flutter by that Black Eyelet dress, Ada, I do believe special mention must be made of that floral number with those kimono sleeves. I agree. A red version is most definitely called for!!!

ReplyDeleteCute! My favorites are the olive dress and the spenser jeremy! :)
ReplyDeleteAda, you have so many pretty dresses! I actually have an entire wall of my closet that is dedicated to dresses and I don't wear them nearly enough. You are inspiring me to wear dresses more often. I can't even pick a favorite of yours, but I really like the kimono style one and the sheer midi dress. But they are all so fabulous! I think maybe we need to do some sort of dress collaboration!

Cute dresses. I love the way you styled them and discussed how you would update the styles for a more fall look. Thanks for sharing at the Grace + Lace Linkup!
ReplyDeleteGreat looks, you have a fabulous wardrobe. I never think to shop Target, though I see others with some nice things from there.
