Stylish Monday January 2020 - Chic+Cozy Winter Coats.

The ladies of Stylish Monday including myself are back for the first collaboration of 2021 and it is all about coats - one of my favorite things to wear and to shop for. I live in Michigan after all, it is cold AF here, coats are a must! From sherpa and faux fur to teddy coats, from puffer coats and parkas to elegant wool coats and pea-coats, coats are a "hot item" for Winter. There are a lot of us styling a variety of beautiful coats today, our group of amazing stylish ladies has grown, as you can see. There are 12 of us from all over USA, even from UK and the Netherlands. I am glad to see a variety of styles, patterns and colors when it comes to cold weather outerwear: fur, plaid, wool, leopard, houndstooth, long coats, 3/4 coats, we cover it all today. My sweet daughter Vivian and my friend JEN from Curated by Jennifer - who took the majority of these photos - are joining me today in their own coats. There is a lot to cover in today's post and a lot of photos too so let's get to it! =)

MOTHER-DAUGHTER  STYLE:  PASTEL  WINTER  COATS  AND  BLACK  COMBAT  BOOTS.
These were our first real outfits of 2021. We wore them the first Sunday of this year on a little coffee+shopping date with Vivian (and Jennifer whom I met earlier). It was the day before Viv went back to school and what it felt like the last official day of Winter/Christmas vacation. The weather predicted that it would snow that day so with our outfits I kept in mind three  things: warm and comfortable, walk-able boots/shoes that wouldn't slide in the snow and mostly light colors that would photograph well in the snow. With that said, when we left the house it wasn't snowing - it had snowed earlier in the morning and at night - and it wasn't actually too cold, about 37-38 degrees. It was the perfect day to have a photo shoot. Vivian and I styled our Pastel Winter Coats with skinnies, (light wash polka dot denim from Target for me and pumpkin spice leggings from Old Navy for her) cream or ivory sweaters, (hers is sherpa, mine is knitted), our matching black leather combat boots, fun back-packs and knotted headbands. I love how my cream sweater looks against the cream coat, they are two different shades but they are both neutrals and fall under the same color category, they both paired so well with the light-wash skinny jeans. I also added some bling via that semi-precious stone long necklace, my new gifted Brighton Collectible watch and matching silver bracelets. Vivian's adorable faux fur scarf with the colorful pom-poms looked great against her unicorn-face sherpa hoodie pullover - a Christmas gift this year, for her, from one of my cousins. That unicorn top matched the gold-printed unicorns on her leggings and that fun unicorn (or is it narwhal) fun backpack, also a gift from the same cousin who gifted her the new cream hoodie. She looks adorable! I love that Vivian and I match in our pastel neutral coats styled in similar ways with black leather combat boots, our backpack bags and our headbands. What do you think?!

I was happy to shoot with JENNIFER from Curated by Jennifer again. Vivian got to meet her too and she even insisted the three of us take some photos. I loved to see Jen's super cute Winter Outfit and I was pleasantly surprised to see our similar Cozy+Chic Winter Coats. Great fashion minds think alike! Our coats were almost identical - same style and length, similar neutral colors (hers is like an oatmeal) - and we styled them both with skinny jeans and black leather boots. And check out our hand game with the cute rings and very similar watches too, they are both designer watches featuring burgundy leather straps (mine is by Brighton Collectibles - my favorite Christmas present from this year - while hers is by Charlie Watch Paris). Shooting in front the Baronette Renaissance Hotel in Novi was great too. It is such a beautiful hotel, love the front of it.

I think coats are a closet staple if you live in the Midwest. We have had our share of cold weather and snow this year, this morning for example it was 24 degrees and with snow on the ground. Speaking of closet staples, if you don’t own a Winter White or Cream one yet, you should. I think a classic wool coat in cream - preferably in a long length or 3/4-length like mine - will be timeless and it can last you for several years to come. Plus a Winter White Coat looks beautiful and rich against the snowy background. I love mine, it’s from Loft from last year (but both Loft and Old Navy have almost identical ones this year). Vivian's millennial pink coat is also a three-quarter length and it is more like a parka. It is by H&M and it was another present for her this Christmas from one of her aunties. It is such a STUNNING COAT and I want it on my size lol.

SHOP MY COAT + MORE, BELOW:

Now, let's take look at how the other stylish Monday ladies styled their gorgeous coats. I love the variety in materials, textures, colors, prints, patterns and more. I even happened to own (and almost wore it for this collaboration) Julie's red plaid coat from Old Navy. I linked pieces very similar to my coat and the other ladies coats, on the widget just above.

“It has turned really cold and frosty here in the UK so I need a warm coat. This vintage cream one is perfect as it’s long and has a hood to keep the snow off my hair…yes, we’ve had snow! I found it in a charity shop for less than £10…such a fantastic bargain!”

“I have a bit of an obsession with coats especially since I live in a snow belt where winters are long and frigid. And I am usually drawn to dramatic statement coats which I love to search for in thrift shops. That is where I found this Jordache white faux fur coat a few years ago and it cost less than $10. I don’t wear it often but when I do, I feel like a fancy polar bear!”

“As someone who wears a lot of black and denim, a fun coat is an instant game-changer. From animal print to bright red – I like my coats to be fun. Throw some faux fur into the mix, even better. And yes, I have been known to wear a coat over my pajamas!”

“I love styling coats and jackets in the winter; layering accessories, playing with shapes and colors. In today’s post, I am sharing a few thoughts on elevating your coat styling game.”

“Needless to say, living in Florida, I don’t get much of a chance to adorn my winter gear. Sure, we get a few days in the 50s, but generally, a leather jacket or wool poncho is all you need. So while I donated most of my ‘heavy winter coats from my New York life’ collection ages ago, I still have a few favorites, which I share on the blog. The coat pictured here was purchased just a few years ago, as an in-between coat – not for weather that’s too cold, but cold enough for more than a wool poncho! Perfect for New York in November, pre-pandemic, 2019.”

“I’ve had this snuggly leopard print coat from Chico’s for several years now, and find myself reaching for it again and again. It’s the perfect little layer for our milder winters, and for my cold office! Not to mention that anything leopard is always a good idea!”

“As a Wisconsin Gal, we have severe winters and live in parkas all season long. I have parkas of all styles, lengths, and colors filling my closet, but for this challenge I wanted more of a statement coat so I chose a very old pea coat that rarely gets worn. It’s a fun, unique coat, but not that practical for my climate.”

“Winter coats, jackets, gloves, mittens, hats and scarves are all a must have living in Illinois! Of course, a girl can never have too many of varying colors, lengths and styles! I might just have two closets full! This long length plaid (I’m always mad for plaid!) coat was a must have from Old Navy this year! It’s the first plaid coat in my collection! I think it pairs great with my star sweater and these navy fur trimmed boots. Every winter I think I might add a coat or two to my collection! After all, it is the thing everyone sees first in the winter!”

“This fur leopard coat is reversible to a rain coat…it’s over 15 years old and will never go out of style!”

“I always have a lot of trouble finding the perfect winter coat! This one wasn’t! On the blog post from last Friday, I am wearing the perfect one. This one has a fabulous color but that’s all it has. No pockets, no lining, no collar. It was given to me and I really loved the color, but passed it on!”

“In Interior Alaska, winter lasts about seven months. Temperatures can be anywhere between 40 below (or less) zero to slightly above the freezing point. While around the freezing point a loden coat works fine, a heavy down coat is a Must at 40 below. These coats make everyone look like the Michelin Men.  Shearling  or goat coats work fine down to -30C (~-22F).”

  6. Just when I thought I could get away without getting a new coat, I find this post. Now I want all the coats!! I put mine on - years old - today and the sleeves are really short. In fact the whole coat is pretty short. I think maybe I do need a coat after all. Going to check out your links. You and Jen and Vivian are adorable. Love all the looks everyone shared.
