My Word for 2021. Plus Linkup.
I have been meaning to write this post for days but here I am, still currently writing it! That's life which is a funny thing because what I just said connects (very much) to my word for 2021. Over the past 3 years I have chosen A WORD I want to choose, aim, follow by example, lead by and be inspired by. A couple of years ago I had two words. My word for 2020 was PERSPECTIVE and boy had I chosen the right word for such a tough, tough year! This year's word, is:
LIVE
verb (used without object), lived [livd], liv·ing. to have life, as an organism; be alive; be capable of vital functions: all things that live. to continue to have life; remain alive: to live to a ripe old age. ... to pass life in a specified manner:
Such an everyday word, such a popular word, such a cliché word in many ways, but a word that is beautiful, lively, passionate, meaningful, simple but strong! The word LIVE has so much meaning, this year more so than ever before, especially after 2020, the year we left behind! It was such a difficult year to say the least. Therefore it is time to LIVE! And not just live as in survive, breathe. No, no, no, no! Living is soooo much more than that!
But what does live mean to me?! To live means to live my life to the fullest, live it passionately, live it whole-heartedly, live it with convictions and intentions. Live by following my morals and my beliefs, how my parents taught me since I was a very young child - probably even younger than Vivian is now. Live the way I am teaching Vivian to live: to smile every day, to be a good friend, to be kind to everyone, to not bully anyone, to not raise her voice, to not get mad or angry if something doesn't go her way. To live with kindness, treat people kindly, live with compassion and intention, live with your core values and follow the rules - I don't mean fashion rules or holiday rules (you can keep that Christmas tree as long as you want, no judgment!) - but I mean those rules that are turned into laws. Live lawfully and stay on the right side of the law, on the right side of justice. That is so very important, it is the right thing to do, the ONLY thing to do! Stay true to who you are! Stay true to what you have been taught, to knowing right from wrong and to following those "rules"!
Live without apologizing for your beliefs as long as they are the right beliefs, they don't hurt someone else, they don't hurt the liberty and freedom of this country, they don't hurt the constitution and the constitutional rights. Live by saying "I am sorry" if you made a mistake or if something happened to someone you care for. Live by saying "I love you" to the people you love the most, the ones you love without any cause or condition. Say "I love you" to your significant other, your parents, your children, your siblings, your best friends or those cousins who are more than family, who have become more than friends... Say "I love you" and mean it! Actually mean everything you say and live by those words! Mean how you live. And also give meaning and purpose to your life, to your living! Make EVERY DAY COUNT!
Live by spreading kindness every single day, as much as you can, in small doses or in bigger ones. Show kindness to those friends you haven't seen or haven't heard from in years. Show kindness to those family members who never miss one of your stories on Instagram, Facebook or Snapchat but almost never like a photo you posted, leave a heart emoji or comment something kind in your posts! Show kindness to your "fans" who snoop around your social media and talk about you behind your back. Show kindness to those co-workers who drive you crazy but you miss them on Covid days when you have to work from home. Show kindness to neighbors who never greet you when you walk by them, or who can be rude. Show kindness to strangers: those that look like you, those that don't look like you, those that speak like you, those that don't speak like you, those who dress like you, those who don't dress like you, those who have opposing beliefs than you, different religions than you, a different skin color than you or a different sexual orientation than you. Show kindness to everyone, even the one that don't deserve them - KILL THEM WITH KINDNESS. That's how I want to live: with kindness always, lead with my heart!
Live by not being judgmental, but not pre-judging either. Who are we to judge after all?! Remember "Don't judge a book by its cover"! Only God can judge us and remember God always forgives. Live with faith and perspective, live with grace and a good attitude. Because attitude is everything! Live by building a legacy for your kids so they can be proud of you and be led by example, give them a great example to follow, a great example to lead by, one day. Live by doing meaningful things. Remember "Rome wasn't built in a day"!
Live every day without regretting much. The extra cup of coffee you shouldn't have drank because it kept you up all night. That extra glass of wine who gave you a headache. Without regretting the house you left disorganized for a few hours just because you decided to do nothing, just watch your favorite Netflix shows. Without regretting the pounds you may have gained, the clothes that don't fit anymore, the money you spent buying overpriced Starbucks coffee, overbuying clothes for your kids that they overgrew and were never able to wear. Live just live! Do it the best way you know how. Do it without lying. Do it without having many regrets.
Live life every day as it comes. Don't make too many plans. Don't get mad if those plans get cancelled. Don't get mad if life has other plans for you - it happens (2020 is the perfect example). Don't worry if you cannot post one day (on Instagram, on the blog, on a podcast, online forum, social media or whatnot), life happens and sometimes you don't feel like it. That's OK! Your freedom and your peace of mind comes first! Live fully, beautifully, kindly, softly, passionately! Live your life and remember that your freedom ends where another person's freedom begins!! These are all the ways I WANT TO LIVE MY LIFE IN 2021. What about you?!
Live, just LIVE - what a beautiful word! The most amazing word!!

Best choice of word for 2021.
ReplyDeleteFor some reason I am waiting for things to be the way they use to be.... and its not happening and we've got to LIVE.
Ada, what a beautiful inspiring post! And LIVE is a great word for 2021. I have chosen Perspective and Gratitude as my words this year although I started focusing on those two things sometime around September when I was suffering greatly from lockdown fatigue. I will be carrying them forward into this year as well because they are helping me so much!

Great word choice and a lovely perspective.
ReplyDeleteBeautifully written Ada! I'm always such a positive person but the last few weeks since non-Christmas and appalling weather I've found minor irritations can easily turn into major frustrations. But today the sun is shining, your word LIVE is so apt and the sunflower below is beaming at me. We all need each other now more than ever so LIVE and LOVE each other.

ReplyDeleteWonderfully impassioned post, Ada! I am very happy to put 2020 behind, and am hopeful that a new life to live is on the horizon. Thank you for sharing your positive message!
ReplyDeleteFabulous WOTY. We all need to be gentler and kinder on ourselves sometimes. Cut ourselves some slack. And give others some grace, too. Love this sentence: Live fully, beautifully, kindly, softly, passionately! YES!!
ReplyDeleteI think you picked the perfect word for 2021, Ada. Cheers to living your life to the fullest and making every day count! <3
ReplyDeleteI hope you are having a great week!

What a fantastic word! Strong and passionate in its simplicity. To live with convocation and passion as you described, rather than to survive, is actually something we have to choose and work for. Looking forward to hearing it's impact on you over the year.

I love your passion in this piece, Ada. The ending words about your freedom ends where another's start are especially poignant. Live is a great mantra for 2021. Live and enjoy every moment.

This is a great word Ada. Life gets so busy sometimes that we forget about something this simplistic. I am glad 2020 happened because regardless of how hard it was, it forced us all to slow down and to live life the way it should be and with those that matter. Cheers to 2021!
