What to Wear to a Fall Wedding - A Collaboration among 8 Bloggers.

Once upon a time, from the years I was living in the capital of Albania, back when my Vivian was a little munchkin (18 months old), to get out of my casual clothes routine (since I only worked part time in the second year of Viv's life, after my maternity leave), I came up with a very fun challenge or series I should say. The "What to Wear to a Wedding" style series originated in September 2014. This is the 7th year I am doing this fun style challenge which has turned into a collaboration between 6 or more bloggers. Unfortunately, as much as I wish to show you here, I don't have any of the photos of that very first wedding look from 6 years ago, when I blogged it here, because BLOGGER made a lot of changes and my original host website of photos expired, therefore those photos are gone, which makes me sad, because I loved that outfit! But I remember the outfit vividly. It was a 50s-60s inspired retro-looking dress in a black+white diamond-shaped plaid with a full skirt, right below the knee, fitted at the chest like a bustier with a halter strap, the most stunning silk dress by White House Black Market (in a size 2 which I am no longer). I paired that stunning dress with red peep-toe satin jeweled pumps and a retro-clutch in a magazine print. To this date, in my 8+ years of blogging that is one of my top 10 outfits I have ever blogged, EVER!

Fast-forward 6 years later, Covid-19, Social Distancing and all, I still continue this Fun Wedding Series and we are back with "What to Wear to a Fall Wedding" and this time there are 8 of us showing you 8 unique styles and ways to go about what to wear for a Fall Wedding. I know most of us are not attending a lot of parties, events or weddings this year but lots of people are still getting married, most of them are keeping their lists at 60 people or less (invited). This challenge is not about promoting big parties and attending parties in large groups. It is about playing pretend while dressing up. And I FOR ONE LOVE DRESSING UP, do you?! We need to do so even more this year to get our mind off the pandemic, off the hate, politics and all the craziness that has surrounded 2020. Some of these ladies have previously joined me in most of the previous "Wedding Style  Series" collaborations over the last 6 years (like Laura and Shelbee), while others are new to this series, however at some point I have collaborated with them all. This year I got to "meet" Julie too, through a Facebook group of bloggers. Below, we each show you our individual styles and why we chose to wear what we wore, as we style wedding looks for Fall 2020.

WHAT  TO  WEAR  TO  A  FALL  WEDDING.
EMMA (Style Splash): "I've had this dress for years and never had the occasion to wear it. The fabric is light but the style provides plenty of coverage, making it ideal for fall. I've picked out the mustard in the snake print pattern with my shoes and bag, and highlighted the purple with my jewellery."

ADA (Elegance and Mommyhood): "This beautiful silk jacquard black+silver rose dress with the bold ruffled hemline is perfect for a Fall Wedding - if I were to attend one. The herringbone black tights bring texture, interest and warmth to this look. And that fabulous fuzzy grey clutch with all the fraying and tassels brings more depth. With the right makeup and of course some heels in addition to fun statement earrings and some sparkly bracelets, this look would definitely be an elegant option to attend a wedding this time of year. Moto jacket is optional!"

AMBER (Avec Amber): "2020 has certainly thrown us all a number of curveballs, with many celebrations including weddings or wedding receptions being postponed until we can safely celebrate again. This jumpsuit is a piece that I purchased last year for a girls' trip to Napa, one that I planned to wear to one of this year's wedding celebrations. Rest assured I will be saving it for one of those rescheduled weddings next year, and I hope that everyone stays healthy and safe during this time!"

DARLENE (Aquamarina Style):  "Take that basic slip dress you wore in the summer up a notch for a fall wedding or any dressy event. Adding a satin boyfriend blazer gives the dress a whole new look! Just add neutral pumps and some bling and you are ready to party!"

JULIE (Fashion Trends and Friends): "I love attending weddings and planning what I'll wear for the event!  This fall we were supposed to have two weddings to attend, which I was really looking forward to as well as some long weekend getaways.  One in September (my niece) in Oklahoma and one in October (our friend's daughter) in Wisconsin. Sadly, both had to cancel their plans and simplify their attendance list.  I believe the type of wedding and the venue dictate what is appropriate to be worn.  I tend to be overly fancy; and for me a wedding is a perfect opportunity to pull out all of my sequins and rhinestones.  This is the look I would have worn to the wedding in Milwaukee, Wisc."

BOJANA (Bo's Bodacious Blog): "This little, moody floral dress is the perfect addition to your fall closet.  You can take it from work, to a dinner date, to a fall wedding without missing a beat.  The dress has it all, flouncy sleeves, ruffled skirt, a tie belt to define your waist and shape, as well as a deep v neckline for a little hint of sexy.  Pair it up with heels, a little sparkle, and a trusted clutch and you are wedding ready without breaking the bank.   Hop on over to the blog to see full details on how to style this dress for a night of dancing and celebrating. "

SHELBEE (Shelbee on the Edge): "I haven't worn my favorite green kimono in a few years and have been wanting to style it as a dress. So I layered a black lace trimmed slip dress over some lacy stockings and sassy high heels and added my green kimono with a leather obi belt. Then I ditched the belt and showed off the slip dress. I chose my furry yellow bag because I love the way it played with the bright colors in the kimono. Of course, my "Love" choker is a must for any wedding outfit!"

LAURA (I Do deClaire): "Although most weddings are put on hold right now (thanks a lot 'rona), this collaboration was a fun reason to dress up for a short time anyway! I've long said that skirts can be dressy enough for weddings and by pairing this dark floral maxi with a lace top and belting it- it almost passes for a dress! "

I love how all of these ladies look! They each have their own beautiful style and to see and read why they chose to wear what they wore was fun. I noticed textures, colors, clutches and pretty jewelry! Laura was the first to send me her photos and I loved her outfit right away because a bold fancy floral maxi skirt is not that expected and she paired it with the most gorgeous two-tone cheetah clutch and that slimming+sexy OBI belt. I fell in love with Amber's black jumpsuit with the romantic sheer sleeves and that stunning designer red clutch which popped! Darlene is her usual elegant self. She loves leopard and found a way to dress it up for a fancy Fall event like a wedding. Bojana's outfit has a bohemian but classy feel to it. Shelbee also cinched that stunning Japanese-inspired green floral satin kimono with an OBI belt. Her LBD has a 20's feel to it: sexy and romantic and like me, Shelbee has on fabulous black patterned tights. Her outfit also reminded me of the dressy look I created with my own Japanese Floral kimono over a LBD here. Emma is a dress lover and she also loves colors, prints and asymmetry as well as fun accessories and she combined all of her favorites into one stunning wedding look. Last but not least Vivian's favorite and the fanciest of them all - Julie - killed it in head to toe black complete with a stunning fascinator - I own one almost identical, also in black. Like me, Julie wore a lot of bling too. And in case you are wondering my fabulous dress is by Target - yes Target!! - from their Who What Wear Holiday Collection 3 years ago. I have worn it before too and I love it. My super fun fuzzy silver+ivory clutch matched beautifully. I DIDN'T LET THIS FABULOUS OUTFIT GO TO WASTE! I actually wore it last Saturday night for a special fancy dinner of 12 with all of my cousins. What do you think of my Fall Wedding Look?!

  6. Ada,

Oh, to be able to attend a wedding in person. Who would have thought we'd all be pining for such things? LOL That aside, your dress is a lovely choice for such an occasion. I've had the pleasure of attending two zoom weddings recently so there was no need to dress up but I did anyway.

  12. Thanks again for another fantastic collaboration!!!! I can't believe you've been at this for such a long time, it's a tradition now! I am glad you didn't give it up due to covid, it was fun to think about dressing up for a special occasion, if only to take some photos. LOL. I really like this dress on you, and the rose detail is so feminine. To contrast that I adore that you paired it with a leather jacket, adding a little edge. Nailed it!
