Thursday Moda #226: Summer Dresses into Fall.

Today I am joined by my friend MIREILLE of Chez Mireille and we are taking Summer Dresses into Fall, and we are showing you how to style our dresses for early Fall or mid Fall (depending on where you live - my climate is usually a lot colder than Mireille's). I decided to go for a classic Summer Dress in a classic Summer print as are stripes. I wore this outfit yesterday, first by itself (the Summer version) and then layered up as it got cooler (the Fall version). Mirei took a long black jersey dress (a maxi) and wore it with Summer slide sandals for Summer - like I did mine - and added neutral booties and an olive vest for cooler early Fall temperatures.

SUMMER  DRESSES  INTO  FALL.
A classic print for Summer in my opinion is stripes. I have a "theory", there is a print for each season: floral for Spring, stripes for Summer, Leopard for Fall, plaid for Winter. Now, you can totally wear any of these prints for any seasons. But a classic black+white or navy+white striped dress in a 100% cotton jersey or cotton knit definitely says Summer to me. Mine even has a beautiful embroidered blue flower off the side on the neckline. It paired so well with my faux suede double-strap slide sandals and this mermaid-printed beachy linen tote. I did add a print mixed into this look - pay attention to that silky knotted leopard headband (it is by Francesca's).

For early or mid Fall think layers. I decided to wear my Glen-Plaid Tailored Blazer over this and a blue floral infinity scarf. The blazer is by the dressier and very well-made Who What Wear line by Target and the scarf is by Loft. I borrowed the nice designer handbag from my mom. It is a dark burgundy color, some years ago they called it "Oxblood". My perforated nude peep-toe booties from Target (which I have had for a few years) were the right shoe choice for this Fall look. Last but not least I am wearing a Royal Blue felt Fedora (picked this designer hat up a couple years ago for about 75% off the regular price). The pattern-lover that I am I mixed three prints into this outfit: stripes, floral and plaid. There are a few textures, too. =) Love Textures for Fall.

Besides her easy, casual, simple black maxi dress, Mireille styled a kerchief-hem blue paisley-print dress (totally a Summer dress) from Summer into early Fall. I love how she added another bright color - mustard - in her Summer outfit. And she kept things simple but totally put-together in her fall look with the nude suede booties and a light-wash denim jacket. When in doubt and to keep warm, a denim jacket is always a great idea to wear over a dress. To see her outfits in detail check out her post from today and show her some love, as well.

Putting their best foot forward, last week we saw a lot of layers: blazers, denim jackets, hoodies, fur toppers. Flowers, stripes and leopard are still all of our favorite prints to wear. And I saw a look or two perfect for the streets of New York during fashion week!

This week's featured blogger is the lovely GRACE from Graceful Rags who stays true to the name of her blog always by putting together such elegant, graceful looks. Have you seen a better-dressed, more polished 20 year old?! That's why this college student has been my Featured Blogger of the week, before, as well. In her 'August Monthly Recap' she featured both of the lovely outfits above. She channeled the 70s in a modern way in those mixed-print wide-leg trousers featuring leaves, flowers and graphics. She brought out the teal color of her pants with that high-neck top she paired them with. The other outfit is perfect for a little college party when those are allowed again. While the zipper-front mini skirt and the leopard tank in a luscious bright green are such beautiful pieces on their own, it is her accessories I love the most. The black bag and black sandals are not only a great match together but so chic and edgy, too. Grace often posts her Outfit of the Day on her Instagram stories too, so make sure you are following her. =)

Laurie doesn't do a lot of color - she stays true to her neutrals - but I am glad she went for it in her 'Weekly Edit' post, with a stunning tiered mixed-prints maxi dress that is a statement-looking piece. She topped it off with an elegant neutral blazer, though, which I LOVED!
Colorful Katie did it again with 'Rainbow on Rainbow' and I loved it. I want to get my hands in that rainbow crossbody bag, it is even shaped like a rainbow!
Bojana's 'Return to School' as a VP was definitely stylish, modern and trendy! Love that striped jumpsuit full of awesome Autumn shades. I also think that the cognac leather tote with that blackish-navy stripe right in the middle matched the jumpsuit to perfection!
Lucy chose the perfect outfit for September because it is New York Fashion Week month. Between shaggy textures, a mix of prints, flowers, fishnet little socks, neon heels and some Gucci accessories thrown in the mix, her 'Styling' was spot on!
So glad to see my beautiful Bostonian friend Rachael on this linkup, again. In her 'Labor Day Sales 2020' post she shared a couple of adorable casual outfits, but I loved this cute versatile leopard little dress with the elegant black leather slides. Fun Fact: I ordered a little casual leopard dress with a smocked top like Rachel's but it was the wrong size. Fun Fact 2: I own Rachel's dress in the baby blue+white mini floral print.
I can't say I have ever worn a casual jersey maxi dress with a hoodie sweatshirt on top but I am loving the vibes of this. Glad Tiina wore her 'Favourite Dress' in a new, fresh way!

  2. Love the striped dress with the plaid coat!!!! And a pair of booties and you are fall ready. Great combination today. Also, I am desiring a fedora felt hat so much this fall season. I just wonder if I'd actually wear it or if I would be annoyed by it. Have a great weekend.

  6. Love both your and Mireille's summer to fall outfit inspiration! I have limited closet space so this is that tricky time of year when I'm layering my summer things and hoping a really cold spell doesn't occur, since my fall and winter wardrobe is still packed away!

  14. I agree with you, Ada, that stripes have a summery vibe but can transition easily to fall with a blazer! Loving both your summer and fall looks here. =)
