The Fab 40s Get Dressed for New York Fashion Week.

THE  FAB  40s  LADIES  GET  DRESSED  FOR  NEW  YORK  FASHION  WEEK!!

"Every day is a fashion show and the world is your runway." - Unknown.

With that said, for this month's Fab 40s theme, our style challenge - chosen by me - is to style outfits you would wear for New York Fashion Week! Let's see what everyone wore and how all 5 of us interpreted this month's theme.

September is the biggest month of fashion. Fashion shows, runways, style+fashion magazines, collections, new season clothes, what will be IN for the following Spring, the latest trends and hottest colors of the season, etc. are always big on display every September. With all of that comes a lot of fun street fashions. After all, no matter what season or month of the year, New York City is always one giant, fabulous fashion show! And let's not forget September has the biggest fashion movement of them all: The New York Fashion Week. Of course, with Covid-19 everything looked very different tand hings were done differently this year, including NYFW which was mostly made up of virtual shows. But to keep things fun, creative and oh-so-fashion and since it is September, I came up with the theme for this month and the theme was:"What Would you Wear for New York Fashion Week". I was dying to see what my other fashionista collaborators would wear for this challenge and they did not disappoint. Fun Fact: they are all wearing one leather/faux leather item and I too almost wore my light black moto jacket on top of my satin top.

I am so glad I picked this theme for today's Fab 40s collaboration. I thought it was a very thoughtful theme, and of course very fashion-minded. This year with Covid-19 (which makes it even more necessary) I chose to play pretend as if we were attending any of the fabulous runway shows at New York Fashion Week to A} get our minds off things and B} play dress up, since we are mostly staying home and there are not a lot of events, places, holidays, special occasions or vacations we are going to and attending this year. Since almost everything is done virtually or remotely, we can do the same with this style challenge. But, even when attending NYFW I wanted to stay true to myself while I kept in mind the fact that it is all about fashion. I love dresses and skirts, so for this challenge I chose a sequined gold wrap pencil skirt by Express with a thigh-high side slit, paired with a baby blue satin silky bodysuit by Abercrombie with a sexy open back which ties into a big bow. The Stuart Weitzman black heeled leather slides have laser-cut butterflies. They have kitten heels, they are sleek and elegant, while still comfortable and I have had them forever. To keep it fun, I chose a see-through lusite little wristlet clutch in a different shade of light blue. I chose to add more sparkle to my look by wearing a crystal necklace and crystal statement earrings. But what you can't quite see, is my makeup. I have on an electric blue mascara and a midnight blue eyeliner. They pick up the blues of my outfit. While my lipstick is an Autmnal metallic bronze, which goes so well with the gold sequins of the skirt. My gold wrap skirt by Express and my slinky satiny baby blue top (it's a bodysuit!) by Abercrombie are current, I cannot find them online but they do have them at the store - I have linked very similar pieces, I love the skirts and tops I linked up in the widget below. I went for full on glitz and glamour as you can see! Bring on the sparkles and the textures!! What would you wear for NYFW?!
Outfit Details: Gold Wrap Sequined Pencil Skirt-Express (current) / Baby Blue Satin Bow Back Bodysuit-Abercrombie (current) / Metal Cuff with Dark Green Stone-Express (old) / Crystal Silver Collar Necklace-Loft (old) / Clustered Multi-Stone Crystal Statement Earrings-BaubleBar (old) / Blue Lucite Wristlet Clutch-Lord & Taylor (very old) / Black Leather Kitten Heel Slides-Stuart Weitzman (very old)

Now let's see what my fellow Fab 40s Ladies wore for for the NYFW challenge.

Daenel of Living Outside the Stacks

Outfit Details: Denim Jacket, Statement Tee, Faux Leather Skirt, and Adidas

Combining street style elements such as a graphic tee, sneakers and a denim jacket, with feminine edginess via her A-line faux leather skirt, Daenel stayed true to herself while beautifully suiting this month's challenge.

Outfit Details: Skirt - Thrifted / Turtleneck - Shelbee's Shoppe (RIP) / Jacket - Target (very old) / Boots - Steve Madden (wedding boots from 2010) / Tights - c/o Sheertex / Hat - c/o Rosegal / Earrings and Necklace - super old

Just like Daenel, Shelbee has edgy, girly and street style elements in her look. Only she can pull off a bright pink floral skirt with fun, laced-up, tall leather boots, a beanie, a super bold chunky pearl lariat necklace and a soft+sweet ecru moto jacket. It would look silly on me, but it looks splendid on her!

Suzy of Suzy Turner Books & Style

Outfit Details: Leather jacket-Massimo Dutti / Skirt-Massimo Dutti / Trainers- Asics / Black vest-Intimissimi / Bracelet-Swarovski / Necklace-Happiness Boutique

By this outfit, you can totally see that Suzy comes from Europe and it's a compliment! A black leather (real or fake) moto jacket, sleek trainers that double both as running shoes and stylish+comfortable NYFW street-style footwear, and a fun and very modern fanny pack - love that hers is in an amazing camo print - are always stylish for New York. I love that she kept her outfit mostly black and her hair looks fabulous!

Sheela of Sheela Writes

Outfit Details: Everything thrifted.

Mixing her textures, her leathers and lots of black+white which is always classic, timeless, stylish and classy, Sheela deserves to be a on a best-dressed list for any New York Fashion Week Show!! Those geometric boots are stunning! And she thrifted everything! I need a tank fitted black leather dress like that. Well done!!

  2. Super fun theme, Ada! After I struggled a bit and then settled into my own little fashion zone, I had a lot of fun with this! I had to laugh at your comment that you would look ridiculous in my outfit because I often feel like I look ridiculous in just about everything I wear! Hahaha. I am loving all your glitz and shimmer for this look. You look super hot, my friend! I can see you gliding through the streets of NYC looking all sassy and sexy! Well done!
