Golden Globes' Bold in Black - Best Dressed.
This year's Golden Globes were a little different both style-wise as well as in regards to the message they tried to convey through the fashions worn by these beautiful Hollywood people. Plus, no one can forget the best speech of the night - Oprah's speech when she received the Cecil B. de Mille award. In support of all women against sexual harassment, the dress code was "All Black" and most ladies (and gentlemen) honored the dress code by wearing all black. Some wore black coordinated with other colors like a pop of white, cream, red or gold but there were a few ladies wearing other colors too. "Time's Up" buttons were the IT accessory at the Golden Globes. I definitely agree with the support and idea behind wearing black this year. But at first - I will be honest with you - I didn't know how to feel about everyone having to wear black. In a way, wearing all black, it is a type of mourning that is why I think wearing colors and celebrating womanhood and equality might have been better. But again I get and support the idea behind it.
So, I was excited to see everyone's black outfits. Black is bold, classic, slimming, sexy, fun, classy and beautiful. It is hard to look bad in black. Everyone can rock black, right?! Wrong! Seriously, at this year's Golden Globes it was about 50/50 for me, fashion-wise. It was almost cut in half as far as great fashions and bad fashions go. There were a lot of beautiful gowns (and pants/jumpsuits or skirts) but there were a lot of ugly looks too. I have to include all the bad fashions in a separate post altogether. The major trends I spied at 75th Golden Globes were: sheer/mesh/lace details; plunging necklines; tuxedo-inspired looks which included tuxedo jackets, tuxedo suits but also tuxedo-like dresses (like the ones worn by Reese Witherspoon and Eva Longoria who fell in the 'middle category' for me); embellishments and sequins; pants over skirts; Hi-Lo hemlines; midi-style skirts; asymmetric details and sleeves; jumpsuits and rompers; accessorizing with colorful gems and jewelry; halter necks; nude lips or red lipstick. I also noticed a lot of see-through Chanel Midi-Style Dresses and they were each gorgeous on their own. So today, let's focus on the best of the 75th Golden Globes Awards today. I will start off with my Most Favorite 5 Looks of the night.
2018 GOLDEN GLOBES' BEST 5 LOOKS.
Margot Robbie in Gucci.
For me the tie for best-dressed was between Margot and Dakota. Both wore amazing, dramatic, beautiful gowns with silver embellishment details. I loved, loved Margot's Long Dress with the Stunning Sequined Floral Motif and the Plunging V-Neck combined with the High-Shoulder Long-Sleeves and that Amazing Front-Slit. I love that she kept her shoes super simple and her hair and makeup was flawless too. Just Old Hollywood Glamour. I have never seen a movie featuring Margot but I heard that she was brilliant in "I, Tonya" for which she received a Best Actress Golden Globe this year.
Dakota Johnson in Gucci.
Just like Margot this beautiful young actress was also in Gucci and her dress was spectacular. I love the little small embellishment with the Sparkly Buckle Belt in the front, but the back was stunning with that Mesh Sparkly Overlay Train and the Beautiful Jeweled Explosion Gathering on the waist, on the back. Her hair looked great too. Since this young actress has become a Hollywood sought-after star, she has shined on every red carpet and I am dying to see the new "50 Shades Freed". Dakota is spectacular in that role.
Alexis Bledel in a crop top and pants by Susan Kelechi Watson.
There were several stars wearing some type of pants this year but no one did it better than beautiful Alexis. The Beautiful 3D Leaves on her Asymmetric Top and Long Sash on her pants were amazing. Two pieces paired beautifully together, they looked like a jumpsuit. She is 2nd Best Dressed in my opinion.
Kendall Jenner in Giambattista Valli.
Kendall brought a lot of drama, high couture and glamour on the red carpet in this Stunning, Frothy, Hi-Lo Black Gown. I loved her Black+Clear T-Strap Pumps too. Her hair and makeup were simple, nude-ish and sexy.
Diane Kruger in Prada.
In a Stunning Prada Gown with a combo of Cape and Mesh Details, Diane looked like the amazing Hollywood Goddess she is. I loved the Unique Cape-Like Back of this Gown which was part of the train, too. Her updo was so elegant too.
Issa Rae in Prabal Gurung.
Prabal Gurung is soon becoming a designer favorite among stars and I can see why. This Liquid Column Dress with a High Slit is spectacular on Issa Rae. Her Emerald Pendant Necklace was stunning too. I loved how many stars accessorized with beautiful colorful jewels. She rounds up the top 5 for me.
THE REST OF THE BEST.
[I will comment on a few of my faves.]
Alicia Vikander in Louis Vuitton.
Carly Steel in Christian Siriano.
Nicole Kidman in Givenchy.
Kate Hudson in Valentino.
There were a lot of see-through gowns/dresses and a lot of plunging necklines this year for the All-Black Golden Globes but the Most Spectacular Dress featuring both of these trends was the Amazing Valentino worn by Kate Hudson. It is Valentino after all. Her cleavage looked the best ever and she rocked the gown and her new pixie cut. Pairing it with a Long Sparkly, Diamond Pendant Necklace was a great idea.
Gal Gadot in Tom Ford.
Jessica Biel in Dior Haute Couture.
Dove Cameron in Monique Lhuillier.
Without that Sweet Little Glittery Gold Bow this would be simply a Strapless Column Dress but that bow - everything. It goes to show you that little details are everything. I don't know who Dove Cameron is but she is gorgeous.
Guiliana Rancic in Sherri Hill.
Hands down the best-dressed red carpet host. Guiliana always nails it. Love the Unique Neckline here showing off her curves and I loved loved the High Ponytail/Braid combo. Wish we could see it in the photo.
Gwendoline Christy in Giles Deacon.
Kerry Washington in Prabal Gurung.
Not only was hers one of the Best Strapless Dresses of the night but I loved that she paired it with Edgy, Mesh, Embroidered Booties. The dress' length was perfect to show those gorgeous booties. Kerry Washington is usually 'on the best dressed list'.
Oprah Winfrey in Sophia Webster.
Halle Berry in Zuhair Murad.
Angelina Jolie in Atelier Versace.
Tracee Ellis Ross in Marc Jacobs.
I loved that she stayed true to her African roots. The Hair Turban went so well with her One-Shouldered Column Gown.
Sarah Paulson in Calvin Klein by Appointment.
Heidi Klum in Ashi Studio.
Heidi's Dress was very similar top Kendall Jenner's dress. It was a "Who Wore it Best" moment?! I think both ladies looked spectacular in these Hi-Lo Frilly Gowns but I loved Kendall's a little bit more. It was definitely more dramatic and bolder.
Laura Marano in Rita Vinieris.
Viola Davis in Brandon Maxwell.
I loved the Velvet Gown paired with the Multi-Beaded Necklace but above all I loved her hair and makeup. I had a hard time recognizing the amazing Viola.
Caitriona Balfe in Chanel.
Tanika Ray.
Poppy Jamie.
Alessandra Mastranandi in Chanel.
Who Wears the Pants.
Christina Hendricks in Christian Siriano.
Her Skirt-over-Pants Outfit was my fave. She once again embraced her womanly curves.
Claire Foy in Stella McCartney.
This tuxedo pantsuit is simple and a little masculine but with a peek of cleavage and the perfect haircut, it looks so sexy, elegant, strong, beautiful and powerful on Claire. No one did a pantsuit better this year at the 75th Golden Globes.
Susan Kelchi Watson in Monsoori.
Alison Brie in Vassilis Zoulias.
Black with a Pop of Color.
Allison Williams in Armani Prive.
Allison wore one of my favorite gowns of the night and definitely my favorite "Black with a Pop" Dress. The top of this strapless dress is so pretty. The half moon shape with all the crystal beading is stunning.
Samira Wiley in Ramona Keveza.
Mandy Moore in Rosie Assoulin.
Sheinelle Jones.
Alison Sudol.
Wrapping it up with this gorgeous Flamenco-Inspired Gown with the Beautiful Red Roses Embroidery, worn by Alison Sudal. Aren't those circles so cute and I love the Off-Shoulder Look.
Which were the best dressed stars at the 2018's Golden Globes, for you?!
I love the all black - I think it's elegant, not at all somber, and even with the color limitation, there were so many unique and stunning looks.

Wow. Wouldn't it be fun to have a place to wear a dress like that? They are stunning and elegant, though after awhile I would feel like you've seen one you've seen them all. GASP. I know. There were several different details, lace, etc etc,. Beautiful but it would look like a black sea of elegance. Not a bad thing. Thank you for hosting sweet Ada!
ReplyDeleteSo many amazing looks! Love your picks!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the review Ada. I stopped watching award shows because I tired of the politics and hateful speeches, but it's nice to see the fashion.
ReplyDeleteLoved how they all stood in solidarity at the awards, they all look absolutely stunning <3

I don't think I've seen Diane Kruger in a bad outfit, she's so stylish. I really like Nicole Kidman's gown too. I'm not keen on the revealing dresses, especially not on this occasion. Thanks for linking up!
