Skirtmas in July, Day 9: Colorful Pleated Midi Skirts.
Morning everyone and Happy Monday. Today is Day 9th of 12 Days of Skirtmas in July that I have had the wonderful pleasure and total fun doing with ELSIE from Polished Whimsy, with whom I have gotten very close to during this fun and super colorful Summer series. Today we bring you another Fun Colorful Skirt just like the last post with our Colorful Pencil Skirts. Today is all about a Colorful Pleated Midi Skirt. But, in case this is your first time stopping on my blog this July, here is what you have been missing. Day 1 - Ruffle Wrap Midi Skirts; Day 2 - Faux Suede Mini Wrap Skirts; Day 3 - Identical Button-Front Striped Midi Skirt with Pockets (by Who What Wear); Day 4 - Identical Black Eyelet Button-Front Midi Skirts (by Mossimo from Target); Day 5 - Mini Skirts for the weekend where I did a Super Casual Friday Look and a dressier Sunday Brunch, Shower or Night-Out Look; Day 6 - Denim Mini Skirts for the Weekend ; Day 7 (which was also our Tuesday Skirt Linkup day) - the Crane Midi Skirt for Sunday Best and Day 8 - Colorful Pencil Skirts. I love the fun edginess that Elsie brought to her outfit by pairing that super colorful rainbow skirt with a black leather bodysuit. The Striped Cream+Black Envelope Clutch and Orange-Red Pumps were perfect accessories for this look, also. Elsie and I love color+pattern so these skirts are perfect for us!
So, as mentioned, for the 9th day of the skirt series we are styling a Colorful, Patterned, Pleated Midi Skirt - this skirt to be exact, it is by Who What Wear - Elsie's and mine favorite brand from Target. We actually had no idea that we owned the same skirt but in different prints. And these awesome prints come in other items: like dresses, a different-style skirt, tops, etc. Both prints are so colorful, pretty, feminine and perfect for the Summer. Mine is in a bright orange floral, would be great for Fall too, while Elsie's is in a super bright stripe print, think rainbow stripes. These skirts are so well-made, fully-lined and so well-priced, great quality for the price too. The plus size version was just marked down, too. I have the camisole version in this same orange floral print and I also got the maxi/midi dress in the rainbow striped print (Elsie's skirt) which you will see styled next week for the first Thursday Moda in August.
HOW I STYLED MY COLORFUL PLEATED MIDI SKIRT.
When I styled this outfit I was thinking Lunch or Dinner Date, Baby or Bridal Shower, or a Fancy Brunch. So with those 'occasions' in mind I wanted to dress up my Gorgeous Skirt but for daytime. Think "Dressed Up Daytime". Which is the perfect yin to Elsie's yang - I would call her outfit "Dressed Up Evening". So for my dressy daytime look, I paired it with a Cream Tank Top that has these Mini Gold Sequins all over the front - I have had it for years from Express (I love their sequined tanks). This is a Racerback Tank Top but I wanted to show the cute straps of my fun bra like a bralette. The bra is in Blush Nude and the straps are these thin cute little ruffles with a skinny brown velvet strip in the middle (between the ruffles). I actually splurged on this bra as a set years ago from La Perla and still wear it and love it. It has washed up so well, great quality. Matching the bold orange shades of the skirt I went for a Full-on Matchy Bag. I love this Saddle Crossbody Bag from Target I have had for a couple of years. The Nude Faux Suede Peep-Toe Laceup Pumps are from Target too (DV). I wanted to pick up all the golds and oranges in the outfit so I went for Gold Ball Statement Earrings (Sugarfix by Target, on clearance now), this Beaded Long Necklace I wore as a bracelet and this Fun Necklace with a Brown Python Oval Charm. I loved how the outfit turned out.
HOW TO STYLE A COLORFUL PLEATED MIDI SKIRT FOR THE SUMMER, IN DAYTIME.
Most pleated midi skirts are high-waisted or at least fall at your natural waist, so pairing it with a cropped top or tank or tucking in a blouse, tee or tank works best, just like I did. Even more so if the waist is elastic like in our pleated midi skirts. Pleated midi skirts are great to wear all year round but a bright colorful one or in a fun pattern - like we chose - are perfect for the Summer. And I cannot think of more Summery Prints than Florals or Stripes so Elsie and I got you covered. For a daytime dressy event like church, brunch, a birthday lunch or a shower, pair the skirt with some heels and a fun bag like a colorful crossbody or a clutch. My tip in styling a Colorful Pleated Midi Skirt for a Dressy Daytime Event is to go for some glamour or sparkle. I did that with my Sequined Tank Top which is still casual enough for the daytime since it is cotton, yet the little sequins make it fun and fancy. And don't forget some dressy shoes like a dressy pair of mules, pumps, heeled sandals or a fun laceup shoe with a little bit of a heel. Some elegant loafers or a dressy low-heel bootie perforated would work too.
Here is how the rest of the schedule will be for July, here on the blog. We got 3 more days of Skirtmas in July posts and I am only doing 3 more posts for this month too. Tomorrow Tuesday July 24th Elsie and I are re-wearing our Eyelet Skirts and we will both feature two looks and our Tuesday Skirtmas Linkup. Then there will be a Thursday Moda Skirtmas post on the 26th and last, next Tuesday July 31st we will do one final #skirtmasinjuly post and our last Skirtmas Linkup for this month (follow us with that hashtag on Instagram with your own cute skirt outfits). So all the 3 days I have left to post for this month are linkup days. I am leaving for a little family vacation on Thursday and will come back Monday night so I will be taking it easy and relax.
Happy Monday and Have a Fabulous Week Everyone!!
