Then and Now: Fuchsia, Empire Waist Dress from The Limited.

Hi. Happy Monday-almost-Tuesday! Happy New Week! Between last minute preparations, closet assessments, cousins visiting, catching up with my brother (before he leaves for work to California tomorrow), taking care of Vivian and still managing to find some time to get my hair colored & eyebrows waxed, it has been a very busy Monday for me today. So, I couldn't get a post in earlier. But better late than never. I still want to squeeze in as many Outfits as I can before I leave to fly to Europe. At the same time I am taking it easy and blog-reading will have to take a backseat. But thank you to all of you who stop by and still read this little blog of mine.

Since I have been in the States, for the past 3.5 months I have gone through the majority of my clothes (two full walk-in closets plus 3 full dressers) that I still have in my room and another room, here in Michigan (at my parents' house). Of course I am packing some of my favorite, mostly Wintery clothes to take with me, but as with every closet evaluation, there are many, many I am getting rid of and purging. I filled up 10 large boxes so far, 6 to give away to Salvation and the other 4 hopefully to sell over the Internet. I also gave away 3 large bags of clothes to my cousin's wife and my mom has given away a few boxes of clothes to my other's cousin pre-teen daughter. What I have realized from all of this (besides having a large boutique worth of clothes, jewelry, shoes & accessories), is that there are many nice pieces still in my wardrobe, worthy and stylish STILL for me to keep. Many of these nice, pretty, mostly classic pieces I have already worn. But I want to wear them again. Some I am taking with me to Europe and some I am leaving behind to have and wear for when I come back to the States.

So, starting today I am challenging myself with a new feature. Every now and then I will be showcasing an item or an entire Outfit of how I have worn it several years ago and how I am wearing it now/today. I am doing this with clothes that are at least 2 years or older, so the original outfits must be at least from 2 years ago. And the idea behind this is not just to wear them for the purpose of the "Then and Now" Feature. The idea is to actually wear & style them in real life. I am starting things off with a Fuchsia/Magenta, Cotton-Rayon Dress from the Limited which has been in my closet since early Spring 2006. As a matter of fact I wore it for my Birthday Dinner Date with my Husband on May 4th of that year. The Dress is still in a great condition and has a simple, easy, classic style with the empire-waist. It would have been perfect to have with me while I was pregnant last year. It is also in the Pink family which is perfect for Breast Cancer A-WEAR-Ness Month and my motto to wear as much Pink as possible this October. Last but not least (and this wasn't planned at all), this Dress matches Pantone's Vivacious Color for Fall 2013, which Classy Marissa did a link-up challenge for, this Monday October 21st.

Then I styled the Fuchsia Dress (which comes with the Brown Sash) with a Distressed Denim Blazer, Stilettos & a Brown, Fan-shaped Clutch. I added some Beaded Dangly Earrings & couple of Plastic, Fuchsia Bangles. This Dress has a low-cut V-neck. I was being Bold + Daring and let some cleavage peek through. It was after all a Date Outfit and we went out for Cocktails afterwards. Here is the Original Post featuring the "Then Outfit". For the "Now Outfit" I wore the Dress with a Baby Pink, Lace-trimmed Camisole underneath & a matching Cashmere Cardigan over the Dress, layering it up a little bit more for an Early Fall day where I went shopping at the mall with my Mom, my Daughter & my Dad's Aunt. I wore my most comfortable Ballet Shoes and mixed+matched my Jewelry: Burgundy, Silver, Purple & Hot Pink, while my hair was pulled back in a bun to make it easy while carrying a baby.

    1. It has 'aged' well because it hasn't been worn a lot.

  6. Fantastic dress! I love the color and both ways you styled it. And my husband says I have a lot of clothes! You should do a closet post to show how you organize them all sometime!

    1. Girl, it would be impossible for me to do a closet post for several reasons: I have one pretty big closet and several dressers in US and then I have my small closet in Albania filled to the brim, and when I exchange clothes between seasons, the un-used clothes go in boxes or luggages during those months. But maybe, next year I can do a small post about how I store my clothes in Albania where I live.

  7. That sounds like a BIG task to through all that clothes! I am horrible at purging things out of my closet, like you, I tend to buy things that are less trendy and can be used year after year. And I think it's incredible that you have outfit photos from long ago (not sure when you started your blog). Great dress! This color is so pretty on you.

    1. I started my blog in 2010 but really didn't start posting monthly until January 2012 so I have been blogging for almost 2 years, pretty regularly. I posted something about Birthday Outfits back in May this year, reflecting on Outfits I have worn on my Birthdays, that is why I have this photo. Thanks so much Alice. I am trying to purge a lot more than I used to. It's a challenge though. LOL
