The Sunday Showcase Linkup, July 2018 - Independence Day.

I cannot believe it is already July and 2018 is half-way over. WOW!! So hard to believe. As much as I hate that time goes by so fast and our children grow up fast too, 2018 has been a year of ups and downs and challenges for me and some of the past months haven't been the greatest but June was wonderful for the most part. I conquered something big and I also got a new car, among other things. Vivian also started Summer school which she loves (she goes part-time).

For this month's Sunday Showcase Linkup which I host with KELLYANN from This Blonde's Shopping Bag and CHRISSY from Granola and Grace we have a co-host, ELSIE from Polished Whimsy who is a mom to a little girl and a working professional. She is also a skirt-lover as is evident by today's outfit too, love her denim mini skirt. Speaking of skirts, stay tuned for the week of July 9th because Elsie and I are doing a collaboration featuring different style of skirts, every day next week! And, those tall wedges, Elsie has on - stunning!  As you will notice from our outfits on the collage above, today's outfits have a theme and that is "Independence Day"/4th of July as it is only 3 days away. Gorgeous Kellyann is rocking that Gingham Red OTS again, the one she also wore for another one of our collabs. I love that Kellyann's and Elsie's outfits are both a little dressy and fancy, while mine is casual but still very put-together, colorful and fun.You can read Elsie's post in full, here - lots of good stuff to read there. And I missed out on the pretty red striped wrap blouse from Loft that Elsie so beautifully styled today. Our friend Chrissy just moved with her family to a different state so she couldn't be a part of today's Sunday Showcase but you can read about her latest adventures here. Last but not least here is Kellyann.

THE  SHOWCASE  JULY  OUTFIT.
First, I wanted to include Vivian in today's post too, where we both styled a Red+White+Blue Independence Day Outfit but between my crazy work schedule and her school, we haven't been able to wear or shoot our matchy Mommy+Me Outfits but we will shoot one or two today! So, instead you get this outfit I wore last week on a Friday off where we also went to Starbucks. It is totally a mom look, but what I'd call a "Mom Babe Outfit" for sure. I am casual, comfortable yet so put-together. Let me sing praises to this dress too. It is probably my most favorite dress I purchased this year. It is a very breathable cotton knit, I love the midi length, the simple style and of course the vibrant navy+red. It is perfect for July 4th. It is by Target's A New Day line and retails for $27.99 but I got it when they were doing a BOGO 50 % OFF on their dresses. It is totally worth every penny of its full price though and I would even pay more for it. I styled it with that pretty Rosie Riveter Red+White Patterned Ponytail Bow Elastic which you also saw on this work-chic 4th of July Thursday Moda post. I wore stripes and mostly red and navy in that outfit, too. I definitely think that fun red bow holder is perfect for Independence Day and all through Summer. But I love that I added more pops of color to my outfit so I chose Vibrant Yellow Thing Sandals (on huge clearance last Summer from Loft) and my Olive Green Saddle Crossbody Bag by Target (I have had for a couple of years). The white in this outfit comes through my RayBan Sunglasses and the Large Pearl Statement Earrings by Francesca's.

Funny thing about this great dress, is that literally a few days after I had purchased it and worn it for the first time, a co-worker of mine walks in to work wearing this dress. And I complimented her on it of course and how she had styled it. I told her I owned it too lol. Which makes me more excited that next time wear this dress, I will totally dress it up, probably for work too. But I have already worn it twice guys and I will probably wear it again these next couple of days, probably with some white sandals.

Below is a collage of the three favorite outfits from June's Sunday Showcase. All three outfits were part of the same post that Katrina Gwen Rose linked up with us.
Katrina Gwen does casual outfits so well, always. And I was totally in love with this post where she styled a Denim Jacket three ways because all three outfits are totally perfect for upcoming 4th of July too and all are totally Americana. After all a denim jacket is a closet staple in an American woman's wardrobe. It is that casual piece that can be dressed up too. It is the kind of jacket that goes with anything and looks great over everything. As a matter of fact last Spring in 2017, I too styled my Red+White Striped Dress like Katrina Gwen with my Denim Jacket and some Neutral Sneakers.

Poem - Still I Rise by Maya Angelou.

As a writer, poet, reader, content creator and lover of writing, I appreciate a good poem, especially one with a strong message. I love Maya Angelou's work and her beautiful poems, but this one I am sharing with you today is by far my most favorite one. I have had a tough year which has been emotional and going through some personal stuff. But like the phoenix and like this poem says I have still risen up and I always will because I am a fighter and a survivor. So, when things look bleak and your days seem unfortunate and unhappy, turn that frown upside down, smile, walk with your head held up, rise up and start over again!!

Still I Rise - Maya Angelou

You may write me down in history
With your bitter, twisted lies,
You may tread me in the very dirt
But still, like dust, I'll rise.

Does my sassiness upset you?
Why are you beset with gloom?
'Cause I walk like I've got oil wells
Pumping in my living room.

Just like moons and like suns,
With the certainty of tides,
Just like hopes springing high,

Still I'll rise.

Did you want to see me broken?
Bowed head and lowered eyes?
Shoulders falling down like teardrops.
Weakened by my soulful cries.

Does my haughtiness offend you?
Don't you take it awful hard
'Cause I laugh like I've got gold mines
Diggin' in my own back yard.

You may shoot me with your words,
You may cut me with your eyes,
You may kill me with your hatefulness,
But still, like air, I'll rise.

Does my sexiness upset you?
Does it come as a surprise
That I dance like I've got diamonds
At the meeting of my thighs?

Out of the huts of history's shame
I rise
Up from a past that's rooted in pain
I rise
I'm a black ocean, leaping and wide,
Welling and swelling I bear in the tide.
Leaving behind nights of terror and fear
I rise
Into a daybreak that's wondrously clear
I rise
Bringing the gifts that my ancestors gave,
I am the dream and the hope of the slave.
I rise
I rise
I rise.

Have a great 4th of July weekend everyone! It will be so hot here in Michigan, up to 100 one day. Yikes!!

Thursday Moda #121: Fresh White+Blue Stripes for Mommy and Daughter.

Happy Thursday everyone. Two days in a row with Cute Mommy+Daughter Outfit Posts. If you missed it, I recapped our Mother's Day yesterday and today not only do I have Vivian with me, but also my beautiful mama. And the three of us went down-town Brighton, Michigan yesterday after work (in the evening) so these photos are from then. My mom is always a put-together casual lady, but as usual we will focus on Vivian's and I's outfits. That is why you are here for, right?!

FRESH  WHITE+BLUE  STRIPES  FOR MOMMY AND  DAUGHTER.
Oh how I much I love white and blue for Summer, especially if the blue is in the hues of the sky, pale blue or periwinkle. It is such a light, airy, fresh, pretty and girly color. Not only it is perfect for Summer but also for 4th of July, when paired with white. Vivian's Adorable Cold-Shoulder Old Navy Dress and my Super Adorable New Romper by American Eagle both have white and blue stripes. Heck, my romper even has red stripes. We coordinated nicely, didn't we?! =) But I love how the pattern and colors are so subtle and not super bright - makes this adorable romper perfect for the 4th of July if you don't want to go for an overly-patriotic look. Now Vivian has her red on the top strap of her Cute 2-tone Sandals also by Old Navy. I love how the tan strap of her sandals (can I have them in my size?!) is almost identical to the shade of tan of my own Laceup Block-Heel Sandals. I also went for a Neutral Muted Olive Crossbody Bag. And I accessorized with Slate Small Circle Multi-Faceted Stud Earrings, a Dainty Black Beaded 3-strand Necklace and a Bold Black Watch which I love. How I felt fun and sassy, and sweet and young in my pretty ruffled romper I scored for about 70% off recently at Loft. It will be the perfect Summer romper. It is a little big on me since it is Medium but it has that cinched belt, plus this way is slightly longer...

...And speaking of the length of this romper, my mom - being a 'typical' mama that worries and loves to advise - told me my romper is pretty short and I should change perhaps. But I convinced her otherwise. See, this is the best my body has looked since Vivian was a baby. Not only does the cinched-waist of of this romper shows my small waist, the slight V-neck shows enough cleavage (and I have quite a bit, trust me lol), but better yet this romper shows my long and well-shaped legs. They are not trained or runner legs, but they are pretty slim and almost entirely without cellulite (being honest you guys) and I have no veins so why not?! So, when you got it - flaunt it! Why not flaunt my nice legs?! We agree?! But within reason, you still want to look good, put-together and like a mom. You want to flaunt it in a classy way. Not like the woman I saw today who was a mom of two little kids with a size F chest wearing a backless maxi dress with a super low-cut cleavage and she wasn't wearing a bra. That is not the good flaunting I am talking about. Stay sexy but keep it classy, ladies! And if you are worried about what anyone may say, just walk with confidence and smile!

Unfortunately, we din't take many photos last night so I had to use these all and some are quite blurry, however cute poses with Vivian, I wanted to keep them. The wind didn't help matters either, so apologies.

Last week you all linked so many great Summer looks. Coincidentally enough, my top 6 favorite outfits from last week would all be great for 4th of July. I am enamored with all the blue and pops of white and red too. Blue and white is after all ALWAYS super fresh for Summer. There were so many gorgeous dresses linked, beautiful shoes and some fun purses. I will take one of each dress, pair of shoes and handbag from the collage below, thank you.
Laurie is always a class act. Her umbrella-shaped red dress is 'A Simple Stylish Dress' from one of her favorite brands. And I happen to love red paired with cognac for Summer, sort of from the same color family yet different.
Tiered beautifully like a wedding cake, Maria notes the importance of 'Tiered Dresses for Summer'. Hers is in the most subtle print and a dark neutral and I love her silver sandals.
Kim who joined the linkup last week shared some 'Summer Sweater Coziness'. A light-weight, light-colored boyfriend cardigan is a must-have piece for Summer, especially when layered with skinny jeans.
Katie has 'Watermelons' in her super chic sheath. Not only is the print fun and whimsical but I love that she chose bright yellow slide sandals.
Nora does a great job designing her clothes and this 'Navy' split-sleeve wrap dress is super classy yet fresh and modern. Love her shoes and large pendant necklace.
I don't want to 'Change Your Thoughts' Nina because you wrote them down so well in your post, but fashion-wise you have legs for days in this fun hi-lo striped dress. Love the OBI belt with it.

P.S. There will be a new Sunday Showcase linkup this Sunday on July 1st so make sure to join it. Thank you!
