Office Job Interview Outfit and Thoughts.

How do you dress for your office job? Is it a more relaxed type of office or do you always have to wear dressy slacks, pencil skirts, pumps, blouses and suits? How about for an office job interview, what would you wear? A couple of weeks ago I attended a small job fair where they were conducting short interviews for corporate, office jobs. There were about 20 of us (only 3 males) and almost every single lady was wearing a Black Pencil Skirt with a White Blouse tucked in and either Black or Nude Pumps. While there is absolutely nothing wrong with that ensemble - it is always polished and classy - it has been done a million times, before. It is not very original, it is totally expected for a job interview (especially a first interview) and I don't think it shows the woman's personality at all. I can be wrong in my thinking but that's my opinion and I am sticking to it. I'd love to discuss this with you though so let me know what you think, in the comments. Thanks.

What I wore was this Tweed Pink Pencil Skirt by The Limited (they have great Pencil Skirts in case you are wondering) with a Silk Off-White + Black Polka Dots, Long Sleeve Blouse with a Ruffled Collar by White House Black Market (another great place to get Dressy Blouses and Skirts for work). The Skirt has the perfect work-type silhouette, the Blouse is Dressy and Girly but between the Dots and the Neckline it has some character. I completely straightened out my hair, used some light shadows on my eyelids but wore red lipstick (it shows confidence!) and finished off the look with Classic Black Patent Leather Pumps by Nine West (Great Shoe brand for all kinds of Shoes, including Classic Pumps that are also comfortable). My bag was small enough to carry everything I needed. It is a classic envelope-shaped bag but the color-blocking makes it fun as well. Last but not least I added Small, Simple Dangly Black Chandelier Earrings. I ended up truly liking this Outfit, what about you? And I don't know about you, but when I love an Outfit my enthusiasm shows on the photos too and I usually end up taking a lot of pictures, too lol.
Silk, Long-Sleeve, Off-White Blouse w/ Black Dots & Ruffled Collar: White House Black Market (very similar), (similar, short-sleeve, bow-tie blouse by WHBM), (similar w/ Peter Pan collar, on sale, love this).
Red+White, Envelope-shaped Cross-body Bag: A Local Accessories Boutique (New) (similar, best deal), (similar, red + tan, great deal), (similar, Kate Spade option, on sale, love this).
Lipstick: Avon Ultra Color Lipstick in "Crush" (identical), (similar by Revlon)
Pointy-Toe, Classic, Patent Leather Black Pumps: Nine West (identical), (similar w/ kitten heel by Nine West), (similar leather option by Nine West, love this).

P.S. I am also wearing Pink for Renae. And also linking up to Allison, Claire, Jalpa, Jena, Jen, Jo-Lynne, Marissa,  Rachel and Tara.
Happy Friday!!

  1. I think this is pretty without being "loud" for an interview. I like how you kept it simple with just the top and skirt.

  2. Yeah I think it totally depends on what kind of job you are interviewing for. I like to go with the classic interview outfit but with a few twists, kind of like how you did here with the pencil skirt and button down blouse in different colors and patterns. It's fun but still conservative and professional.

  4. Very pretty outfit Ada. Yup it's true everyone dresses the same for a job interview. No one wants to stand out in a bad way.

  6. I love your interview outfit. I think it is perfectly polished yet very stylish. I've said before and I'll say it again, I think you look great in a pencil skirt! Your polka dot top is really chic. My office is really great. I can totally wear very professional things (and some days require it) or can be more relaxed/trendy if I want.

  7. Hey Ada! Thanks for stopping by! Things have been super busy with wedding planning, so I have not been able to visit my normal round of blogs as much as I usually do! I hope all is well with you and your little one :) I completely agree about the office interview outfit; I am totally the one that does a print top or printed top with the black skirt and jacket - it just shows them a little personality! I actually can wear jeans everyday at my current job (blessed!) so don't have to dress up too much. Anyways, you look great - love the pink pencil skirt!

  9. This is a great interview outfit! It's professional but still shows your personality! I only have to dress up for work about once a month because I work from home and when I do, it's business casual so I have some flexibility of what I can wear.

  10. I typically stick to black basics (skirt and blazer) for an interview but like to switch up my top. When I interview for schools, I like to match my top with the school's colors. I think this is pretty, I love that skirt!
